SVAMAI Healthtech was started by practising dentists who got tired of running a clinic on four paper registers and software that had clearly never been near a chair. We build the infrastructure we wanted, and then we use it.

01The story

It started as a workaround.

The first version of what became Osdent was a set of scripts built to solve one practice’s problem: patients who did not come back, treatment plans that lived on loose paper, and a cash book that only balanced on the days the last patient left early.

It worked well enough that colleagues asked for it. That was the signal. Before writing a proper product we spoke to around twenty dentists across tier-2 and tier-3 Uttar Pradesh and asked one question: what has software failed to do for you? The answers were unanimous and unflattering — priced for a market they are not in, designed for a desk they do not sit at, staffed for a team they do not employ.

So we rebuilt from the constraint rather than the feature list. Phone first. Offline by default. A free plan with no clock on it. And underneath, a record layer good enough that a second product could be built on it in months instead of years — which is exactly what 1Dentist turned out to be.

We are not building an app for clinics. We are building the layer that clinics, patients and eventually other developers all stand on.

Mission

Give every healthcare professional in India software that is worth the trust their patients place in them.

That means correct, fast, affordable and honest — in that order. A clinic should be able to run its entire practice from the device in its pocket, and never wonder where its data went.

Vision

Become the healthcare intelligence infrastructure that India’s care delivery is built on.

Not the biggest app. The layer underneath the apps — records, workflows and intelligence, documented and open enough that other builders ship on top of it.

Values are only real when they rule something out. Each of these has cost us a feature, a shortcut or a customer at some point.

Clinicians first, always

Every feature is reviewed by someone who has run a chair. If it adds a click to a busy clinic day without giving back ten, it does not ship.

The record belongs to the patient

Clinics are custodians of data, not owners of it. Patients can see, export and carry their own records — that is a product principle, not a compliance checkbox.

Boring reliability

Healthcare software earns trust by being unremarkable at 9pm on a Saturday. We optimise for uptime, low bandwidth and graceful failure before we optimise for novelty.

AI that shows its work

Models draft; clinicians decide. Every suggestion carries its source, its confidence and a one-tap way to disagree — and disagreement is training signal we act on.

Built for the ninety percent

Most Indian practices are one or two chairs in a town you have not heard of. We design for patchy networks, shared devices and no dedicated front desk.

Interoperable by default

Data that cannot leave is data you do not control. We build to open standards and publish our APIs, even when lock-in would be commercially convenient.

The problem, from the chair
Our founders are practising dentists. The company started as a set of tools built to fix the paperwork, follow-ups and no-shows in their own clinic — then shared with colleagues who wanted the same thing.

Twenty clinics, one honest audit
We interviewed dentists across tier-2 and tier-3 towns about what software had failed them. The answer was consistent: it was priced for metros, built for desktops, and assumed a front desk that most practices do not have.

Practice management and the patient network run on one shared record layer. Video consultation, digital prescriptions, billing and WhatsApp reminders are live for clinics onboarding across north India.

Ambient charting, treatment-plan drafting and recall intelligence that read from the record a clinic already keeps — reviewed by the clinician before anything is saved or sent.
